    Step 1

    Receive Election Notice

Your employer has 30 days to notify the plan administrator of your qualifying event. The administrator then has 14 days to send you the COBRA Election Notice by mail.

    Step 2

    Elect Coverage (60 Days)

You have exactly 60 days from the date the election notice was provided, or the date you lost coverage (whichever is later), to decide if you want COBRA.

    Step 3

    Make First Payment

After electing coverage, you have 45 days to make your first premium payment. Coverage will be retroactive to the date you lost your original coverage.

    Lost Your Election Notice?

If you haven't received your election notice or misplaced it, contact your former employer's HR department immediately. They can provide you with the necessary forms or direct you to the third-party administrator handling your COBRA plan.

Shocked by the COBRA premium cost?
